A good review

There is a very nice article about ASEDOW on the webpage of rehearsal studios Ensayos Jendrix . (pincha aquí para verlo)
Music is their business and Jordi hits the nail on the head when he describes, in the process of learning a language, the shyness and embarassment we language learners go through at some stages of the process.
Like all skills, the more you practise the better.
In English we say

'Practice makes perfect'

WALKS

Great news.
In association with Candás and EOI we have dates and walks planned for February, March and April.

Shared Readings

There is a lot of interest in the shared readings of the magnificent works of Oscar Wilde at the library and we have scheduled them for the third Tuesday of the month at 19.30h.

Those who sign up will receive at home the tale or poem or extract from the play that we choose to read and they can ponder on it before we get together.

There was a very nice positive atmosphere on Tuesday and we look forward to getting together again.
Contact ASEDOW at our gmail address or go by the library beside El Monumento de Los Toros.

SIBN

Spanish Irish Business Network had the nice idea of bringing together yesterday evening, graduates from Irish universities who live in Spain

They chose a venue for each city and for Madrid the venue was The James Joyce bar.

It was specially nice for me to meet Tom whose mother teaches in St Malachy's, Castlewellan my hometown. Hopefully we shall see some of you again on our upcoming walks in the country.

ASEDOW PRESENTATION IN LA BIBLIOTECA CENTRAL DE SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LOS REYES

Well, having explained to the audience why our association is named after Oscar Wilde, we proceeded to read together a short story and so commenced the shared readings.

We are very happy with the participation of the audience who took turns to read and sought answers to their queries, shared ideas and showed enthusiasm about this endeavour.

Raquel on behalf of the library, pointed out the value of the activity that combines English language and English literature and which people can enjoy in a relaxing way.

Ascen gave a clear and concise outline in Spanish about ASEDOW's past and present.

Now we need to start planning its future.

We are making good progress and meeting interesting people.

Thank you all for coming.Your presence is invaluable.

Watch this spot for more news.

Estamos haciendo buenos progresos y conociendo a gente interesante.

Gracias a todos por venir. Vuestra asistencia es de un valor incalculable.

The Boxing Day Pub quiz

We have to say that it is unusual to score so high in a pub quiz. The winning team with Toñi and Vicente scored 32 out of 50 and two runner up teams tied with 28 points each. Well done!

The first prize donated by Food Hall was a nice sack of British goodies and we donated some flavoured packets of crisps also from Food Hall to the runners up.

Not everyone reads the blog and so misssed the answer to the Titanic question. Others were at a disadvantage not having anyone on the team to tell them what the snow was like in the carol Good King Wencelas. The English, Irish, Americans, Australians, Maltese etc among us are all singing the answer...deep and crisp and even.

Anyway we had a good turnout and Nieves, the proprietor of Nuba joined Audrey and Elías from Gijon's team in the last round and had fun too.

Thanks for coming. We all enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

Well done Melanie. You were a great Quizmaster. Jesús will be the next one and you can play next time, Melanie.

P.S.This entry is late and that is because on the following day we scooted off to enjoy Christmas in beautiful Northern Ireland.

Australia, Malta etc ya estamos cantando la respuesta... deep and crisp and even.

Enhorabuena Melanie.
