TALKING GROUP

The topic today 30th September is the interesting discovery in Peru of well preserved mummies, a ritual observed by the 'people in the clouds' the Chachapoya . They lived at very high altitudes in Kuelap, Peru. These mummies were covered in beautifully woven colourful cloths.
Ancient Egypt observed similar rituals.
Right now  archeologists hope to find the tomb of Nefertiti.
What do these practices tell us about their civilizations?

Sense and Sensibilty

GREAT STORIES

So much literature has been brought to the cinema. Jane Austen's novel, 'Sense and Sensibility' was made into a film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. More recently the BBC made a TV series based on the novel.

On Tuesday at 19.15h we will be reading the first chapters of this much- loved book, first published in 1811.

Romantic fiction with enchanting heroines and irresistible suitors!

Autumn in Madrid's Botanic Gardens

Yesterday we enjoyed a guided tour that the Botanic Gardens offer at 12h on Sundays in English and learned for example that there is a good substitute for sugar in a plant called STEVIA, that there is a tomato tree (pictured below)
Tomato tree
that our guide's favourite is the árbol de Jupiter which has nice flowers with a beautiful smell and a crazy erratic way of growing and that there exist 30,000 different  kinds of roses in the world. The ones in the garden were not in flower.
Very beautiful dahlias
