Good Vibrations

http://www.rte.ie/

You can listen in and enjoy the soft Irish accents and entertaining programmes such as the review of
Good Vibrations. It is a film released today about the music scene in Belfast in the seventies.

The site is very easy to use and even offers news programmes in SLOW ITALIAN for learners of the language. Maybe there is an opening here for a sharp Spanish underemployed journalist with initiative.
Check it out.

But cats can't read

In Malta they love their cats and you will see scenes like this all over the island.
À propos of nothing really. Just thought I would share it.
Still it could inspire a story for our story competition. Details will follow shortly.

Only in Malta: No dogs, no bicycles, no skateboards, no football... but the cats can't read and don't care! Thanks to Scott Noskills for the pic

St Patrick's Day rain and all

We braved the weather and made it very quickly to the bar where we had the quiz as planned. I hope Encarna can send some more pics. Great fun.

Wear Something Green

Our walk this year won't be too strenuous. We set off at 16h30 from Baunatal metro station. As usual we ask you to wear something green and if you have a funny hat from last year you could wear that too! After all the talking on the walk where you will meet lovely charming, well travelled people you will be ready for a pint or a caña. Both are great but we might have to visit two bars. Ah well, what can you do?

The terrain is sandy and the walk will last about an hour and a half. We will have a quick quiz about Ireland at the bar and songs to sing if they let us!

You are welcome to join us. All you need to bring is your good humour to join in our  St Patrick's Day celebration.

Praise of folly Elogios sobre la locura , el desatino

'The praise of folly, as he went on, soared into philosophy and Philosophy herself became young....'

(Notice how Philosophy is She)

Lord Henry's cleverness with words over the dinner table induces the quiet Mr Erkine to tell Lord Henry his discourse was very bad indeed. ' In fact I consider you extremely dangerous.'

and seduces Dorian completely.

'No one talks so wonderfully as you do.'

Ireland's Presidency of the E.U brings theatre to Spain

Last night was very special  because of the presence the award winning author,  MARINA CARR. The reading/performance of her play, MARMOL,  gave us much to talk about. Very thought provoking. It  explored how we might react to infidelity in dreams.
Also on the stage for the 'tertulia' at the end of the play were the popular and wonderful actresses Ana Otero, Silvia Espigado and actors Alberto Jiménez and Juanma Navas, who interpreted Ms Carr's play.
They were accompanied by the director Antonio C. Guijosa and the Irish writer and director Mr Denis Rafter.

The Irish Ambassador, Mr Justin Harman, showed his appreciation of the hugely talented  actors and actresses who made the three shows memorable for all who had the privilege of seeing them and for bringing Irish authors, synonymous with excellent reading, (my personal opinion) to a wider audience.
Sunday 10th March

There is an undeniable affinity betweeen Ireland and Spain and there was great syntony among the Spanish  actors who recreated the oh so familiar rural bar in Galway where a group of friends catch up with each other after ten years.

CONVERSACIONES SOBRE SUEÑOS ROTOS by Irish playwright TOM MURPHY begins and ends with Roy Orbison's haunting 'Dream, dream, dream' sung by Annette ( Anna Gras Cots) whose soft voice filled every corner of the theatre. The erudite iconoclast Tom (Fernando de Juan) and  very likeable Junior, (Israel Ruiz), sweet Peggy, (Pilar Massa) wealthy bachelor Liam (Juan Rueda) and homecoming actor Michael (Camilo Rodríguez) meet up  at Missus' bar (Ester Bellver).

In the 60s of  hope inspired John F Kennedy, they were fired by the talk of their friend JJ who now seems to have abandoned them to the reality of  life, so much tougher in the 70s, with the terrible violence in the North.

Dreamers, and in Ireland there's a fine line between dreamers and wasters, draw each other out over drinks at a bar in this wonderful performance/reading given by actors and actresses who made each of their characters memorable. Very enjoyable as it brought Ireland a bit closer to us. Thank you.
Well done, Mr Denis Rafter.
Saturday 9th March.

The Irish Embassy together with El Centro Dramático Nacional brought us this play by Tom Murphy to the Teatro Valle-Inclán in Lavapiés, Madrid.

For many of us culture and free time go hand in hand and with tickets at 3E, this kind of initiative will hopefully be repeated and  no doubt the audiences will grow.

The first performance by the magnificent playwright, J.M. SYNGE was DEIRDRE DE LOS PESARES.
If anyone would like to send us a review, please do.
Friday 8th March.

En marzo cumplimos 4 años

And the first thing we have to do is have a General Assembley.
It has been called for  the 11th March at 19.30h.

The second thing is celebrate St Patrick's Day on the 17th March.
We'll do that with the things that the Irish love best....
 nature, conversation and a drink.
