Universidad Popular
San Sebastián De Los Reyes

Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.

All her bright golden hair
Tarnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.

Lily-white, white as snow,
She hardly knew
She was a woman, so
Sweetly she grew.

Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast.
I vex my heart alone,
She is at rest.

Peace, Peace, she cannot hear
Lyre or sonnet.
All my life's buried here,
Heap earth upon it.

            Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde had a sister called Isola who died at the age of ten. He was twelve at the time. Later he wrote this poem to her memory.

16th October 1854

It is the birthdate of Oscar Wilde.
Please take time to reflect on this and remember him, a man of extraordinary wit and talent.
It would be impossible to recommend one play, one poem, one story  or one treatise. They are all great.
Choose one yourself and find some quiet time to read and be edified.

In an ideal world?

Here is an informative article about life in Japan. A lot of our members are well travelled so they will be able to tell us their experience when we get together on Wednesday 16th October.

http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20191006-what-japan-can-teach-us-about-cleanliness

It coincides with one of the excellent initiatives in our town (San Sebastián De Los Reyes) of which the association has  informed, Los Martes Del Arte, a masterclass on Art appreciation.
This month the subject is Japanese Art.

Our discussion begins at 18:30h.

Who's going?

The ancient wisdom of Australia

A very interesting look at people with a different outlook on life, people who can heal and who happily share their wisdom and want to help us help our mother Earth.

A sad loss

For Lola

This picture was taken in Sanse. A  light has gone out of our lives.
We will miss Lola who joined our association in 2014 and came regularly to our weekly meetings. We enjoyed hearing about her travels and her views.
With her daughter living in Canada, Lola was very keen on improving her English.
She will be sadly missed. In Audrey's words 'she was gentle, empathic and compassionate.'
Here you can see her on the right of this picture in the link below congratulatng the winner of our story competition.

Discussion

Some research has shown that if your surname, your family name, begins with a letter later in the alphabet, you could be at a disadvantage at school and in life.

Do you think this is true?

We will be talking about this in our room Wed 2nd October 18:30h
