A Generous Donation

The original painting by Picasso is in the Reina Sofía modern art museum in Madrid.
This magnificent replica has been carved in wood and was donated to the town of San Sebastián De Los Reyes by the association Nabul Scultores.
It is on display on the first floor of Biblioteca Central where you can contemplate  at your ease each and every detail. It captures the essence of the moving and powerful anti-war painting.

The  subject of the painting was the horror that took place in the Basque town of Guernica in 1937

TOPIC AND READING

READING GROUP
Tuesday 08 - 06 -16
Biblioteca Central 7:15p.m.

Our monthly get together at the local library is open to anyone who likes English and Literature too. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere we take turns to read the selected piece out loud and  then comment on it. We have delved into many of the classics, as well as contemporary literature.

With our first grant from the local council we bought copies of the Collected Works of Oscar Wilde and together with Raquel, our local librarian whose English is excellent, we began our
Lecturas Compartidas in 2012 at la Biblioteca Central, San Sebastián De Los Reyes.
First we read Wilde's wonderful stories for children then extracts from his plays and from the Portrait of Dorian Gray and then the  wrenchingly sad  Ballad of Reading Gaol.

Another year we bought copies of Roald Dahl's short stories to read.

The past year or so  we have been looking at literature that has been brought to the Big Screen which has given us the opportunity to enjoy John Steinbeck, among others
For our last reading before the summer break we have a really good story by Roald Dahl.

TALKING GROUP
Wednesday  07-06-16
Universidad Popular 6:30 p.m.
TOPIC:
People who walk out
The links we have received from Luis explore  why people disappear without leaving a trace.
It is  disturbing to know that in some cases their disapppearance is voluntary.
