On the 11th  at our shared readings we will read 'The Devoted Friend' by Oscar Wilde.
 People well versed in literature are familiar with Oscar Wilde's miller.
It is a well known tale told by animals and as always nature is the beautiful backdrop.  A children's story that fills you with admiration for the writer's ability to gently denounce deep injustices.

TWO TALKING GROUPS THIS YEAR

Nuestro gozo en un pozo.... our trip to the Basque Country has had to be postponed.
Only sixteen signed up so we will try again.
However we have this beautiful picture from Segovia.Juana and her friends went there to compensate.

In order to help Asociación Dehesa Vieja show more people the lovely new civic centre in their neighbourhood, we are sharing one of our activities. These are our informal talks.
They take place on Wednesdays at 18:30h in la Universidad Popular where we talk in English about any topic under the sun.
Every week Luis surprises us with a new one!

A healthy debate

Isn't it better for rules to be agreed on together? For  example the burka ban or burkini ban.
When police were asked to enforce a local law on the beach in Cannes in the south of France this summer, the pictures went viral and raised many more issues.

    -  La entrega de premios se celebrará el  13  dic a las 19:15h en la Biblioteca Central, Pza. de Andrés Caballero 2 ,   San Sebastián De Los Reyes  reemplazando nuestra encuentro habitual  con la literatura  en nuestras  lecturas en la Biblioteca Central. ¡Esta vez vosotros sois los autores! Lo tenéis difícil porque mirad lo que dijo en su día Oscar Wilde:

'In literature we require distinction, charm, beauty and imaginative power.'

     - El jurado estará formado por personas de habla inglesa ajenas a nuestra asociación. En el pasado la Embajada de Irlanda ha colaborado con nosotros. No queremos abusar de su amabilidad y  probablemente llamaremos a más puertas este año.

     - Los participantes y  ganadores serán  invitados a  leer su cuento  al público el día de la celebración de la entrega de premios el 13 diciembre. Los ganadores serán anunciados ese mismo día.

     - Todos los participantes recibirán un librito en el que se publican todos los cuentos de este año y un diploma que acredita su participación.

     - La participación en el concurso, supone la aceptación de las bases y la autorización para que se publique su relato en el libro que regalamos a los concursantes.

     - Los ganadores deberán recoger sus premios personalmente el mismo día de la entrega de premios el 13 diciembre. Si no es así se lo guardaremos un tiempo limitado y sólo se entregará a la persona ganadora. 

     - El relato, se enviará a asedow@gmail.com en un archivo de word (Office) o de write (Open Office) y en asunto, poner  Write a story and win a prize. Junto con el texto, deben ir los siguientes datos:

Un evento muy bonito

A new civic centre was opened yesterday in San Sebastián De Los Reyes and we were invited to participate and demonstrate one of our activities to the many visitors that came to celebrate the event. 

Our thanks and congratulations to Asociación Vecinos Dehesa Vieja for the beautiful new space they have won for all the local people who live in this new part of Sanse.

Our shared readings recommence after the summer break and Raquel has found a very  interesting story to read and discuss by HEMMINGWAY. 'The Capital Of The World' set in Madrid.

SATURDAY
We are very happy to be invited to the inauguration of the new civic centre in San Sebastián De Los Reyes by the association Dehesa Vieja.  http://www.avdehesavieja.org
It will open on Saturday morning at eleven and we are sharing the conversation activities that we already do in our room at the Universidad Popular.
Anybody interested in joining in the conversation this  Saturday only has to come. You will enjoy it!
