The Moon And Sixpence

'To my mind the most interesting thing in art is the personality of the artist; and if that is singular, I am willing to excuse a thousand faults. I suppose Velasquez was a better painter than El Greco, but custom stales one's admiration for him: the Cretan, sensual and tragic, proffers the mystery of his soul like a standing sacrifice'

William Somerset Maugham

Opening chapters of The Moon And Sixpence

A popular British writer of the twentieth century and magnificent story teller.. We will be reading the first chapters of The Moon And Sixpence by Somerset Maugham. This  novel is loosely based  on the life of French artist Paul Gauguin.

Isn't it wonderful when Art and Literature converge?  What draws you more, Gauguin's paintings or to explore the artist's unconventional life only the way a writer can?

Join us on June 6th Biblioteca Central San Sebastián De Los Reyes at 19:15h.
This is our last reading for 2017
