MAD ABOUT MOVIES ON WEDNESDAY EVENING.

Here you are,  the movie list we shared last Wednesday. I am looking forward to watching them all, some for the first time and some just to enjoy them once again.
Later, in the street, some of us went on talking (but in Spanish) and sharing titles and laughs ... For example, Le prénom and Le dîner de cons, such  smart and funny French comedies. You have to watch them too!
It was a very nice evening!
Lola M.

ORLANDO (1992, Luis´s recommendation), based on a Virginia Woolf book, with Tilda Swinton, the special actress in her androgynous appearance.
THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS (2006, Rosa´s choice), with Will Smith and his own son, Jaden. Based on a true story about American dream and personal triumph.
CHILDREN OF HEAVEN (1997, Alvaro´s choice), an Iranian film nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture Foreign Language. Perfect and tender, innocent and pure as the children protagonists, for adults and young people.
INCEPTION (2010, it is Pedro´s election), a film by Christopher Nolan, always an amazing and particular director. High level science fiction with Leonardo Di Caprio.
HIDALGO, OCEAN OF FIRE (2004, chosen by Audrey). Beautiful horses, heroes and adventures in the desert, with Viggo Mortensen and Omar Sharif... so beautiful men too.
EL SECRETO DE SUS OJOS (2009, Julia´s recommendation). Marvellous film and splendid story, based on the Eduardo Sacheri novel, with great Argentine actor Ricardo Darín.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (1968, Elke surprised us with this western), the best spaghetti western in the large filmography of Sergio Leone. With a cruel Henry Fonda, a young Charles Bronson and a pretty and elegant Claudia Cardinale.
THE POST (Elke again), the latest Spielberg´s film, the story of the scandalous secrets of the USA government about the Vietnam war, and the brave woman who published them in her newspaper (The Washington Post). With the best one (we all agreed): Meryl Streep.
THE KING´S SPEECH (2010, recommended by Klaus), the emotional story of George VI, the English king with a stutter and his revolutionary speech therapist. With Colin Firth, a true English gentleman, always smart in his roles.
BRAVEHEART (1995, the first Keren recommendation), directed by and starring Mel Gibson, a historic film about William Wallace, the Scottish hero who fought against English oppression in the XIV century.
ROB ROY (1995, Keren´s tip too), story of Robert McGregor, Scottish independence hero in the XVIII century, about honor and true love. With Liam Neeson and great Jessica Lange.
THE BIRDCAGE (1996, Biddy´s choice) an emotive comedy with the unforgettable Robin Wiliams and Gene Hackman. The son of a homosexual couple is going to marry the daughter of a conservative politician... laughs and muddles guaranteed. A film to open minds, about tolerance and prejudices.
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (1957, Lola´s first choice), an old black and white film, a classic from Billy Wilder, a genius. The story of a process where nothing is what it seems to be, based on an Agatha Christi play. With Tyrone PowerMarlene DietrichCharles Laughton, great classical players.
SMOKE (1995, Lola´ second one), a delightful film about the meaning of life, full of magic, sensitivity and humanity. The lives of the protagonists mix with each other in a Brooklyn cigar shop. With Harvey Keitel, William Hurt and Forest Whitaker. Paul Auster wrote the screenplay... who could ask for anything more?
THE ROYAL TENEMBAUMS (2001, Lola again), a movie that doesn´t leave you indifferent, you hate it or you love it, not a conventional film by a crazy young genius Wes Anderson. With Gene HackmanAnjelica HustonBill Murray, Gwyneth Paltrow, ... It is about the Tenembaums a dysfunctional family, with three children who become three genius. The soundtrack is really awesome, there is  perfect and beautiful music (classic and modern) for every scene in the film.
