Short course in English

'English for travelling' was programmed for the months of March, April, May and June on Fridays from 16.30h to 18.30h. It is a course for young and not so young adults who have some 'up in the head' knowledge of English but need a lot of help to start using it. We cannot give the course in La Casa de la Juventud as intended. If you can offer your help or suggestions please contact us at asedow@gmail.com. WRITE A STORY AND WIN A PRIZE!

( II EDITION )

TITLE: THE HAPPY PRINCE

BASES

1.- The competition is open to all children
2.- The story must be in English
3.- The title of the story: "The Happy Prince"
4.- Maximum number of words: 250
5.- The entries must be original
6.- The story is more important than the English so we will correct it for you.
7.- Categories:

• JUNIOR.........................................10 to 14 year old
• SENIOR..........................................15 to 18 year old
• GROUP EFFORT ( 2 or 3 people )

8.- Send your entry with your name, age and telephone number to asedow@gmail.com
9.- The competition closes at midnight on the 28th April
10.- Results will be published on the asedow website as soon as possible after the close of the competiton.
11.- Prizes:

• Gift voucher to the value of 25 € for the winner of Junior category
• Gift voucher to the value of 25 € for the winner of Senior category
• Cinema tickets for winner of Group effort category

12.- Prize winners will be notified via their telephones or e-mail.

Thursday get togethers

As we don't have a place to meet up we have asked if it is okay to use the café in La Casa de la Juventud in San Sebastíán de los Reyes on Thursdays at 20h and they kindly say that it's fine. It's very nice and very warm.
At the moment we are still doing our paperwork but anyone who wants to drop by and ask for information, please do. If necessary we'll have two tables, one where you speak English and the other where you don't.
To start the ball rolling you have to come
The idea is to use your English in a social context. If the conversation does not flow there will be guided activities.
SO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT NEVER BEING ABLE TO USE YOUR ENGLISH!

N.B.The golden rule of the Spanish tertulia applies here. No politics!

A MURDER MYSTERY

Don't miss Agatha Christie's 'The Mousetrap'.
It's on in the Adolfo Marsillach theatre in San Sebastián de los Reyes on Saturday 29th Jan at 8p.m.
In Spanish it is called 'La Ratonera'.
This play is in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest running play in London's West End. If you didn't see it in London, you now have the chance to see it here in Spanish.

There's a story teller coming to Sanse.
Children can hear the stories told in English and Spanish.
That's in Claudio Rodríguez library on Thursday 2nd December at 18h.

Viene un cuentacuentos a Sanse y los niños podrán escuchar los cuentos en inglés y español.
La cita es el jueves 2 diciembre a las 6h de la tarde en la biblioteca de Claudio Rodríguez.

Fundación Antena 3 is addressing the problem of failure at school.
Experts such as María José Diaz-Aguado, José Antonio Marina, Jaume Carbonell, and José Antonio Luenga have collaborated with the Defensor del Menor to produce a book which has been published by Fundación Antena 3 called 'En Busca del Exito Educativo'.
If you are interested in reading this book, we have a copy in ASEDOW.
Naturally it is in Spanish. All of us who live in Spain know the reality of the difficulties children, teachers and parents face.

Fundación Antena3 y El Defensor del Menor han trabajado juntos para publicar un libro muy interesante llamado 'En Busca del Exito Educativo' para combatir el fracaso escolar.

3rd Documentary Film Show in Sanse

The town council and cinemas of San Sebastián de los Reyes are giving us the opportunity to see three documentaries , one of which has been nominated for an Oscar, from Africa and developing countries.
They will be in the original soundtrack with subtitles.
This on the 9th,10th and 11th December.
Entrance is free.

Well, ASEDOW has delivered the copy of the children's stories to Bookseller's and Bi lingual Readers with many many thanks for the prizes they kindly donated to ASEDOW's first story competition.


This association has also acquired its first books:

A beautiful signed edition of 'Gleanings' by the Irish poet John Liddy.

A set of short plays for children interested in DRAMA.

Much better to see a play than read it.
The Pinter plays were intriguingly obscure and thanks to the acting they were penetrable.
The Christmas pantomine, Cinderella , is coming up.
