Normally you will find us in our room on Wednesdays at six but this month of September we will take it easy and open the room at seven in the evening.  People are still settling back slowly to their daily routine.

This is a good time to come by and ask about our association. We will be happy to talk to you.

ASOCIACIÓN EDUCATIVA OSCAR WILDE

El nombre de nuestra asociación es un homenaje al gran escritor Oscar Wilde. Fundada en 2009, para promover el ideal de aprendizaje permanente y un enfoque relajado para el estudio del idioma, la asociación sin fines de lucro está abierta a todos.
Nos reunimos los miércoles a las 6p.m. en la Universidad Popular Avenida Baunatal 18, San Sebastián De Los Reyes, Metro Baunatal para intercambiar y compartir libros y DVDs en inglés de nuestra gran colección y conversar, leer y debatir en inglés, sobre cualquier cosa de interés.
A lo largo del año organizamos actividades y excursiones que este año incluyen una visita a La Residencia De Estudiantes y El Parque Del Oeste.

The name of our association is a tribute to the great writer Oscar Wilde. Founded in 2009, to promote the ideal of lifelong learning and a relaxed approach to the study of language, the non-profit association is open to all.

We meet on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in La Universidad Popular Avenida de Baunatal 18, San Sebastián De Los Reyes,  Metro Baunatal to exchange and share English books and dvds from our large collection and to chat, read and discuss, in English, anything of interest.

Throughout the year we organize activities and excursions which this year include a visit to La Residencia De Estudiantes and El Parque Del Oeste

Being a member of ASEDOW is a pleasure. Every week I meet a group of people of different ages to talk on a specific topic, to read a book or to watch a movie which is discussed later. That is good enough for an elder person like me, but, in addition, those activities are conducted in the English language which is a plus for my brain and a good activity for young people.

He acudido de enero a junio los miércoles a esta actividad y ha sido muy agradable y estimulante compartir una tertulia en inglés con personas interesantes, divertidas y con diferentes inquietudes. Nuestros niveles de inglés son diferentes, pero todos hemos participado,... y ¡mejorado! Hemos hablado de temas de actualidad propuestas por los participantes, y de temas culturales que nos motivaban (lecturas, cine, viajes...) Tras el descanso veraniego seguiré acudiendo, sure!

The Final Four

In alphabetical order the teams that have qualified for the World Cup title 2018 are Belgium, Croatia, England and France. Bravo! For the moment they can enjoy the glory of their achievements and the Cup stays in Europe. We will  welcome your chronicles.

Looking on the bright side, if your team isn´t playing, you can sit back and enjoy the football.

Undoubtedly, the team we really want to win are the young boys trapped in a cave in Thailand. Man against the elements.

A natural approach to language learning

In San Sebastián De Los Reyes there is a place where you can enjoy a bit of company and browse through a nice collection of DVDs and books. A place for English speakers and English learners.

Nothing can replace good instruction. It is a myth that you speak a language fluently after spending six months in a country. If you want to speak it correctly, you have to go to classes. But as Stephen Krashen says, ´Ít should be possible for second language acquirers to spend a great deal of time reading books and magazines, watching TV shows and films they are really interested in. Such a facility should be open to the public, to make it possible for anyone to get comprehensible input in the second language of their choice.´

We have such a  facility and we have gone a step further because in the same space we have weekly discussions where you can swop ideas with very interesting people.
To borrow our books and join the discussions you need to  become a member which only costs 15 Euros a year.

En El Paseo De Recoletos Madrid you can walk down the wide streets of this beautiful city and contemplate artisans at work. Our friend José has a stall called Ningures. It is definitely worth a visit.

Buy something and  take it home as a souvenir, something you will always treasure.

Audrey and Michael have kindly given us their collection of DVDs which they have acquired over the years.👏👏👏👏👏 We will eventually put the list on the blog. 

Today we will be stacking them away and possibly we will choose one to watch in our room.
